Lighting - The Jewelry for Interiors

Lighting is such an important aspect of interior design and many times it is unfortunately forgotten about and left until the last minute. The amount of light and placement of fixtures can either elevate or break a design. There are obviously times when dimmer light is appropriate and increases the ambiance - think fancy incredibly designed steak houses like Born and Raised in San Diego.

Lighting can also add the perfect touch of gold to pull the rest of the space together - like this pretty floral bathroom.

When small nightstands are used on either side of a bed, sometimes creativity comes into play to make room. Table lamps can be overbearing at times and one way to pull the light off the table is hanging pendants with switches on either side of the bed.

With the current desire for very large, open spaces in homes, it is hard to determine where one space ends and the next begins. Lighting can be the perfect anchor over a dining table for example to pull the space together.

Reading nooks are quickly becoming an obsession of mine lately - especially built in cozy spaces with cushions and pillows and blankets... dreamy. Installing swing arm sconces above a built in is a great way to bring directed light into the space.

Twinkle market lights are always a beautiful way to create incredible outdoor ambiance over a dining set or lounge area suitable long after the sun goes down - and with this time change, I am desperate for ways to stay outdoors past 5pm.

I could go on and on and on, but I'll stop here for now. What is your favorite way to light a space?

Caitlin
